In this episode of Cultural Capital I discuss the decline of the secular rational world view and the return of religious belief with the writer Matt Rowland Hill.
Great podcast. Would it be possible to learn where the statistic about the percent of people who are both married and homeowners (from 1990 and today) comes from?
I’ve only listened to your takes on literature, so it was a surprise to learn you are a materialist. Enjoyable insights nonetheless! (First time I’ve ever heard “Gen Zed”)
I feel as if the age of reason died somewhere between 9/11 and 2010, when “serious people” finally found ways to completely cut themselves off from any feedback from outside their circles. The result was stranger and stranger ideas with less and less connection to reality or results.
This is really interesting. I would argue that the zenith of rationalism / humansm / secularism was probably around 1800. It's been a steady decline ever since.

thanks for listening. Let me ask Matt where he found it...
